To ensure pristine machine quality, T-DRILL manufactures components and tools in their own component manufacturing facilities in Isokyrö, Finland. In the fall of 2024, T-DRILL’s component manufacturing was taken to the next level with a half-million-euro investment: a new Mazak Integrex i-100 multi-tasking machine. The new machine streamlines production by eliminating several work phases per cycle, enhancing product quality and boosting production efficiency by up to 50 % for specific components.

“Our entire Isokyrö production facility is dedicated exclusively to in-house components and tools. From the beginning, T-DRILL made a strategic choice to keep component manufacturing in-house. This approach not only enhances product quality and the sustainability of our operations, but also supports our ability to make significant investments. With the addition of the new Mazak, we anticipate substantial improvements in quality, efficiency, and delivery reliability”, says Managing Director Jouni Matikainen.

The INTEGREX i-series is the fifth-generation Mazak multi-tasking machine, featuring especially high accuracy for complex workpieces. The i-100 integrates the capabilities of a high-powered turning center and a full-function machining center.

Specifically Tailored for Tool Production

T-DRILL’s Mazak has been specially adapted for the manufacturing of the tools used in the company’s tube processing machines. The new method not only enhances quality, efficiency, and throughput times in T-DRILL’s tool manufacturing, but also supports continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and tool functionality in cooperation with product development. The machine also allows for unmanned operation, further increasing the productivity of T-DRILL’s operations.

“The machine has been operational for a few months, and we’ve already observed a notable reduction in working time and a significantly shorter throughput time. These advancements are expected to have a substantial impact on our operations”, says Factory Manager Jussi Kujanpää.

A Solution Developed on the Factory Floor

The decision to invest in a more efficient tool production process was the result of comprehensive research and evaluation of various options. The idea to utilize this specific multi-tasking machine originated on the factory floor, where a T-DRILL machinist proposed a specialized solution to produce products using a machine type already familiar to the staff. With a machine specifically tailored to T-DRILL’s manufacturing needs – and one in which the staff already has extensive expertise – the company is well-positioned to continue achieving exceptional results.

“The commissioning of the machine went smoothly, allowing us to get off to an excellent start. We are excited to see this advanced equipment’s long-term effects on our production.”
